Kathmandu, Nov 14 (RSS): Save Upper Karnali National Campaign central committee Tuesday urged the government to scrap the decision to extend the construction tenure of the Upper Karnali Hydel Project with GMR, the contractor company of the project.
The company is constructing the 900 MW capacity Upper Karnali Hydropower project located on the river Karnali in Dailekh, Surkhet and Accham.
Speaking at a face-to-face programme organized at the Reporters Club in the capital, members of the committee stated that the cost of the project has been reached Rs 165 billion from its previous Rs 70 billion with one year extension.
They said that Rs 85 billion was institutionally embezzled with this decision, which they called for scrapping immediately.
On the occasion, Prof Dr Surendra KC said that large rivers like Koshi, Gandaki and Mahakali with abundant water resources were handed over to India since 2007 BS, and which he said has closed the doors of development of Nepal.
Campaigners Ratna Bhandari, Padam Roka, among others vehemently opposed the decision.
