Kathmandu, Aug 10: The stakeholders have laid emphasis on the need of  promoting renewable energy technologies to mitigate climate change impact in Himalayan region of the country, in modern lifestyle, tourism activities as well as in indoor and outdoor environment.
At a programme organised to introduce     'Harnessing Renewable Energy for Clean Heating in the Himalaya (HEARTH) here on Monday, they stressed the need of promoting renewable energy for clean heat.  
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) introduced the project in collaboration with the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (APEC) and implementing partner Practical Action (PA) with funding support from the Clean Air Fund (CAF).
Stating that it consume more firewood to cook food and make houses warm as high-altitude regions experience cold round-the-year, they said that it increases indoor and outdoor pollution and black carbon emission in Himalayan region.
The participants shared that different types of renewable energy technologies could be brought into use to lessen this problem in the context when snow melting problem is increasing due to this. 
The project is going to be implemented as a pilot project in 65 households and five different community organisations at Marpha village of Jomsom rural municipality in Mustang, it was shared.  
On the occasion, Director General of ICIMOD, Pema Gyamtsho, emphasized the need of promoting clean renewable energy technologies to reduce adverse impact in the Himalaya as indoor pollution impacts human health and increases climate change problems. 
Similarly, Executive Director of Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, Nawa Raj Dhakal, expressed the view that the implementation of the thermal energy roadmap approved by the government lead to improvement to environmental cleanliness, energy availability and living standard of the people of Himalaya region, adding the AEPC through different programmes has been expanding clean energy access in the region. 
Likewise, Chairperson of the rural municipality, Mohan Singh Lalchan, expressed happiness over the project going to be implemented, targeting his rural municipality which has been struggling with the direct effects of climate change. 
Country Director of Practical Action, Pooja Sharma, expressed the belief that the implementation of the project would help improve negative impacts seen on human health and environment. 
Representatives from different government agencies, development partners, private sector working in the renewable energy sector were present on the occasion.
