Myagdi, Oct 19: More than 300 households in Jaljala rural municipality of Parbat district, adjoining Myagdi district headquarters Beni Bazaar, have been affected by recent monsoon-induced disasters, with many families losing their homes and livelihoods.
According to the rural municipality, floods in the Kaligandaki River and landslides following heavy rainfall from September 24 to 27 damaged 316 houses.
Of these, 126 were completely destroyed and 50 partially damaged, while another 140 are at risk of disaster, said Chief Administrative Officer Sandeep Kafle.
Kafle shared that the disasters also caused extensive damage to farmland, including millet, paddy and orange orchards, as well as roads, drinking water systems, irrigation facilities and settlement protection infrastructure.
Farse at Jaljala-8 has been hardest hit by the disasters where 75 houses were swept away and 27 others remain at risk, he added.
Meanwhile, 35 families from Tangwang and Khanigaun in ward no. 7 of the rural municipality have been displaced by landslides and are staying in temporary shelters in safer locations.
The rural municipality has begun arranging essential relief supplies and planning short- and long-term rehabilitation.
Chairperson Raju Prasad Acharya asserted that the immediate priority was to provide roofing sheets, utensils, clothes and food, and establish temporary shelters for affected families.
The Municipality is coordinating efforts with federal and provincial governments and donor agencies to mobilize resources for rebuilding homes and damaged infrastructure and protecting vulnerable settlements.
