'No need to discuss in parliamentary committee for providing info demanded as per law'
Kathmandu, Aug 21: MPs have emphasized that since the Right to Information Act, 2007 gives the information officer the authority to provide information when properly requested, there is no need to discuss such matters in the parliamentary committee.
In today's meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Hearing Committee, after a proposal was put forward to discuss the requested information, the MPs asked that the information officer be directed to provide the requested information, saying the committee should not discuss matters already determined by law.
Barsha Man Pun said that parliamentary committees do not need to give instructions on matters already stated by law. He also mentioned that such topics shouldn't be proposed for discussion in the committee.
Kabindra Burlakoti, Nara Bahadur Bista, Prem Prasad Dangal, Padma Kumari Aryal, Madhu Kumar Chaulagain, and others mentioned that the committee should not discuss complaints that are beyond its scope. They also suggested that the committee not reopen discussions on issues that had already been discussed.
Committee chairman Bodh Narayan Shrestha instructed the secretariat to provide the requested notice.
He also mentioned that in today's meeting, it was decided that the topics designated as the committee's scope would be clarified and an orientation on the same provided by the expert in the first week of September.
