Kathmandu, Aug 30: Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security, Sita Badi, here today held discussions with officials of the Nepal Red Cross Society on relief efforts for people affected by the recent flash floods in Bhotekoshi river. 
During the meeting, Minister Badi extended thankfulness to the Nepal Red Cross Society for its immediate response following the floods in Rasuwa district, including the prompt mobilization of its staff and volunteers. 
Badi also reaffirmed the government's commitment to coordinating efforts with the Society to provide additional assistance to people affected by the devastating disaster.
On the occasion, Ministry's Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut shared that the government has prioritized women and children, senior citizens and social security. 
Thus, he urged the NRCS to accord greater priority to psychosocial counseling, family reunification and other services for these vulnerable groups.
Likewise, NRCS Chairman Dr Bishal Kumar Bhandari briefed his organization's immediate response following the August 26 catastrophic flash flood in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts.
According to him, the Red Cross Society has been providing services by forming clusters in line with government arrangements, with priority accorded to women, children, elderly people and persons with disabilities.
Similarly, Nepal Red Cross Society's Secretary-General Rishi Raman Khanal informed that the organization, as a humanitarian partner of the government, has been continuously coordinating with the government, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partner national societies and other stakeholders for post disaster search, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operation. 
During the meeting, Head of Delegation of IFRC to Nepal, David Fisher, commended the relief and rescue efforts of the government of Nepal in the wake of the unprecedented Bhotekoshi flood.
He also articulated the readiness of the China Red Cross Society to provide necessary assistance towards this end. The IFRC is working with the Society to mobilize additional international support. 
According to him, the IFRC is urging the international community to help raise funds to support post-disaster operation in Nepal. 
The Nepal Red Cross Society on the occasion mentioned that it has so far provided 2,000 tarpaulins, 1,000 blankets, 1,000 mattresses, 600 ropes, 5,000 hygiene kits, 1,790 dead body-management bags (cadaver or mortuary bags), 55 first-aid kits, 50 stretchers, 15 tents and 50 emergency toilets.
It has also deployed more than 5,000 volunteers for search and rescue, body management, temporary shelter and food distribution.
