US stocks rise after solid bank earnings
Wall Street stocks rose early Tuesday following solid earnings from large US banks that helped offset weakness in semiconductor shares.
While JPMorgan Chase profits missed analyst estimates, the banking heavyweight pointed to continued health in technology investment and consumer activity.
Goldman Sachs results topped estimates by a wide margin.
About 20 minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.3 percent at 52,002.97.
The broad-based S&P 500 rose 0.1 percent to 7,811.13 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq was little changed at 27,245.07.
Chip companies such as Micron and Nvidia fell in parallel with rivals in South Korea following reports that China's CXMT had made progress on new technology to boost memory chip density.
David Morrison, senior market analyst at FCA, said the weakness in semiconductors could set the stage for investors to shift funds to other sectors that haven't performed as well in 2026.
"Maybe it's time for some rotation," Morrison said in a note. "If so, let's hope it's for all the 'right' reasons."
