Kathmandu, Aug 6: Various speakers have empathized the need of sustainable peace, disarmament and development for global peace and economic prosperity. 
The speakers said this at a programme organized here today by the Hiroshima University Scholars Alumni Nepal (HiUSAN) and Natural Resource Conflict Transformation Center Nepal on the occasion of the 81st Hiroshima Day in conjunction with the 70th Anniversary of the Japan-Nepal  Diplomatic Relations. 
They expressed concerns over ongoing geopolitical tensions, wars, and conflicts among nuclear-power nations, warning it would once again put human civilization at risk. 
At the programme held in commemoration of the human, physical, and environmental damages caused by the nuclear bombing in Hiroshima, Japan on 6 August 1945, participants emphasized the need for sustainable peace, disarmament, and development, noting the world is still not free from nuclear threat. 
Prof. Dr. Janardan Lamichhane, Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), said the Hiroshima Day sends a message of peace and development not the war and destruction to the global community. 
Prof. Manish Pokharel, Dean at the Kathmandu University, stated that the global community has not liberated itself from the tragic realities of world wars, raising serious concerns for human civilization. 
Former Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission, Mohana Ansari, emphasized on bringing peace and prosperity to the world by shunning destructive acts occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 
Dr. Ram Chandra Bhusal, President of the JICA Alumni Association Nepal, highlighted important role of the Japanese government in infrastructure development of Nepal during seven decades since establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. 
He stressed on further efforts for expanding this relationship in the coming days. 
Dr. Ranjan Prakash Shrestha, President of HiUSAN, informed that various programmes have been held every year to bring Nepal–Japan relations to the people's level and send a message of global peace. 
On the occasion, Association's Secretary Babul Khanal and Treasurer Geeta Ghimire, along with Spotlight magazine editor Keshab Paudel, emphasized on the use of nuclear research for development and prosperity rather not for destruction. 
This year's programme was organized under the theme 'Global Peace, Education, and Development: Paths to a Sustainable Future.'
