Rain-triggered disaster: Traffic obstructed on various roadways
Kathmandu, Aug 19: Roads in various parts of the country are blocked due to landslides and flooding caused by rains.
Likewise, vehicular traffic has been stopped during night hours in some road sections in view of the risk of landslide and flooding.
According to the report released by the Police Headquarters as of 10:30 this morning, various road sections in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum West, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Ilam, Nuwakot and Makawanpur have been affected.
The Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunje Besi road in Kavrepalanchok has been closed to all vehicles from 6pm to 4am due to potential flood risk. Vehicles are allowed to operate from 4am to 6pm.
All vehicles have been stopped from operating on the Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur from 5pm to 5am due to the risk of rain-induced disasters.
Apart from essential services, all public and private vehicles are banned from traveling on the Tokha–Chhahare road section in Nuwakot from 10pm to 5am until further notice.
The Mechi Highway has been completely blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 due to the deposition of mud on the road. It is said that there is an alternative route in that area.
The Araniko Highway in Kodari, Ward 2 of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchok is completely blocked due to a landslide at Iku and the road at Liping in the same ward got washed away.
The Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubensi road section has been completely blocked after the Trishuli River washed away a section of the road at Khalte, Ward 5 of Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Rasuwa.
The Jajarkot–Dolpa road along the Bheri Corridor is completely blocked due to a landslide at Rijekar Ghat in Ward 6 of Aathbiskot Municipality, Western Rukum.
The Khandbari–Kimathanka road under Koshi Highway at Sirek Danda, Ward 3 of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality in Sankhuwasabha has been completely blocked after 10 meters of the road has subsided.
A section the Besisahar–Manang road is completely blocked at Rambazaar in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4 in Lamjung due to a landslide.
The police headquarters has urged people to travel carefully and use alternative routes if needed, as the risk of landslides and floods persists in areas where the roads are blocked.
