Kathmandu, Aug 20: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has directed the related agencies under the ministry to improve classification of newspapers and distribution of public welfare advertisements.
Minister Dr Timilsina said it is imperative to ensure transparency and effectiveness in distribution of public welfare advertisements. He made such direction during a discussion held with officials from the Department of Information and Broadcasting and the Press Council Nepal.
The discussion recorded the issues as distribution of public welfare advertisements to various media run by the same person/institution; and submission of false details (more number) of printed copies of newspapers. The officials from the Department and the Council admitted these issues during the discussion with Information Ministry on Thursday. 
Some newspapers were found submitting details with more number of printed copies while actual prints were found less during monitoring, it was shared.
The doubling in distribution of public advertisement must end, Minister Dr Timilsina said, reminding whether the existing regulation and standard on newspaper categorization were followed strictly while categorizing newspapers.
