Gulmi's mini-great wall becoming a new tourist attraction
Gulmi, Aug 22: The 'Dhurkot mini-'Great Wall' connecting two historic locations Dhurkotkot and Budhikot has become a new tourist destination in the district.
The stone structure built by Dhurkot Rural Municipality, resembling the world-famous Great Wall of China, is attracting increasing attention from domestic and foreign tourists.
The rural municipality has named the footpath built on a stone wall as 'Dhurkot Great Wall'. It is located in ward no. 6 of the Municipality. The structure also offers a science view of the mountain ranges including Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and others.
Bhupal Pokharel, Chair of Dhurkot Rural Municipality, said the construction of the Great Wall has helped promote tourism in the area.
The municipality is also working to develop the tourist area in an integrated manner by constructing the historical Dhurkotkot and Museum, Bichitra Cave, Budhikot Great Wall, and Martyrs Park.
The structure was built at a total cost of Rs 32.3 million, with 30 per cent contribution from the federal government, and the remaining by the rural municipality.
