78 unidentified bodies managed in Pokhara

Gandaki, Sept 1: Seventy-eight unidentified bodies brought from different districts for identification and post-mortem have been buried at forest area located at Lamachaur of Pokhara metropolitan city today. 

Out of 102 dead bodies brought from different districts, 78 were managed by fulfilling the due legal process, according to Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Kaski, Nabin Karki. All 102 people had lost their lives in the August 26 Bhotekoshi flash floods in Rasuwa. 

Similarly, 19 dead bodies were handed over to relatives after identification while five bodies would be kept in hospital for few more days for identification, as relatives have claimed it. 

He stated that out of remaining five bodies in hospital, it is suspected that two might be of foreigners. 

The activities for the management of all the dead bodies initiated after post-mortem and DNA sample collection, added Karki, sharing that the collected DNA samples would be sent to the Forensic lab. 

An arrangement was made to see bodies brought from Nawalpur, Dhading, Tanahu and Gorkha by displacing photos on the screen for identification.  The dead bodies were buried by fulfilling all legal and scientific process following the suggestion of  experts that risk of health pandemic might increase as bodies start decomposing. 

The bodies were kept at Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences and Manipal Teaching Hospital.
