Banke, Aug 22: Five journalists including, Harihar Birahi were honoured here  on Saturday on the occasion of the 13th District Convention of the Nepal Press Union (NPU), Banke. 
 Birahi was presented with the 'Press Freedom Fighter Late Pannalal Gupta National Journalism Award', carrying  a cash prize of Rs 25,000.  The award was presented by the Nepal Press Union Banke. 
Similarly, former NPU Central President Samir Jung Shah was conferred the  'Late Sushil Koirala National Journalism Award', which also carries a purse of Rs 25,000. 
Likewise, Nabin Giri was presented with the 'Late Jagannath Gaudel Journalism Award', Tekendra Basyal received the 'Press Union Working Journalism Award', Leela Chaudhary  was honoured with the 'Press Union Emerging Journalism Award' and Pawan Yadav received the 'Centurion Blood Donor Award'.  Each of them received a cash prize of Rs 5,000. 
On the occasion, Birahi was of the view that democratic freedom achieved through  great efforts and struggles of journalists has not been adequately utilised. He also added that journalists had, in some cases, failed to fulfill their responsibilities properly. 
The district convention is scheduled to elect a new leadership for the NPU Banke.
